Dress in Layers — We're Off to the Fair!
posted by Leslie on | 2 Comments - Post a comment
Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. There's a little bounce in my step and a smile on my face when the first bit of cool weather blows into town and the leaves start turning those beautiful shades of orange and red. For me, it’s all about football, decorating the house for Halloween (my decorations were up on Sept 30 — much to my husband’s dismay), neighborhood cookouts … and my most favorite thing — Fall festivals! I’m not embarrassed to admit that I get way too excited about any and every kind of fall festival. There’s just something about piles of pumpkins, buckets of Kettle Corn and tables full of homemade crafts that I find very endearing.

Being the festival lover I am, I’m always on the lookout for a new one. I first read about the fall paradise of the Country Living fair a few of years ago — but it was always held in Ohio. While I’m known to go to great lengths to attend something like this, a plane ticket was just not in my budget. I was so jealous of those darn Midwesterners who got to go and experience the fabulousness — that is, until this year!!!

The fair finally has an additional location — Hotlanta! (That’s Atlanta for everyone not from the South.) I’ve never made reservations for something so quickly. My mom, sister and oldest friend, Ashlee, are joining me for two fun-filled days of fall goodness. The fair starts today, and now that all of the arrangements have been made, my next question is, “What am I going to wear?”

The key to dressing for any farmer’s market, flea market or fall festival is being comfortable. There’s a fine line between comfy and frumpy —you can still be stylish while being comfortable and casual (no tennis shoes for this gal).

Pack layers and things that will mix and match because you never know about the weather — it might be cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon. A must-have for me at flea markets and festivals is always my messenger bag. I want my arms free for all of my purchases, not for hauling my big purse around. And I will definitely have my Shop and Go Totes with me. I’ll stash all three in my bag and pull them out as I make purchases. And, shhhh, it’s a surprise, but as a little “happy,” I’m bringing some totes to give to my mom, sister and friend for all of their purchases. They’ll be so excited.

While our main focus for the trip will be shopping and eating, there are several other Willow House employees going for actual work reasons (although I’m sure they’ll squeeze in a little fun too). Laurel will be scouting the antiques hoping to get inspiration for future products. Alison is going to try and hit some of the demonstrations to get ideas for upcoming catalog shoots. I hope we all come back inspired and fresh with ideas.

I’m super excited about this weekend, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
