It’s almost here! It’s almost time to reveal our new Fall 2012 Jewely by Sara Blaine catalog!
I’m not sure if you picked up on it via social media, but we had a whirlwind of an August! In the span of one month, our team planned, shot, and produced a new jewelry catalog. Can you hear our huge sigh of relief to be done? WHEW!
Don’t get me wrong — we had a blast along the way. And as always, not EVERY cool idea we had actually made it into the catalog. Here’s a few that got left on the cutting room floor...

Before you ask — no, they weren’t planning to feature me in this TINY hat! We were planning to use our Creative Director’s (Alison) grandfather’s saddle in one shot. Sadly, the whole thing was looking a little too “Bonanza-Sassy,” so we canned it. But Kathleen and I couldn’t resist posing for posterity. Note: Five out of Five Stylists Agreed: I look like Woody from Toy Story!

Now this shot made it into the book, but the antlers did not. We actually shot some options with the antlers, but felt it distracted from the model and the jewelry. But who knows, you may be seeing these antlers again, perhaps in a P&P post...

Now this is the part of the show you rarely see, and most folks never even think about. To get “the perfect shot” with jewelry, about 1,318 things have to happen at once. If you were to eavesdrop on the set, you might hear a conversation amongst our stylists and designers that goes a little something like this (FYI, “click” is the camera)...
Click! “Can you tilt your head to the right?”
Click! “Not that far right. A little less. A little more. There.”
Click! “Can you kick your hip out a bit?”
Click! “Katie, more wind, please!”
Click! “Now we can’t see the necklace. Can you angle your body like this?”
Click! “Less wind, Katie. She looks like she’s reporting in a hurricane.”
Click! “Great. Perfect. Now BIG smile!”
Click! “Maybe not quite so big. Go for natural.”
Click! (silence)
Click! (shifting uncomfortably, more silence)
Click! (whispering to other stylist) She looks like she’s growling.
Click! “Try a half smile? There! Perfect!”
Click! “Great! Great! Wait...why isn’t the model wearing any pants???”
And so on and so forth. You would literally be amazed at the multitude of minutiae that must be addressed, tweaked, monitored and blessed to create the perfect shot. It’s a labor of creative love, that’s for sure. BTW: Katie could have a great career working the fan machine for Beyoncé.
Okay friends. Since you’ve hung on for all the behind the scenes fun, don’t you think you deserve a little reward? And I mean LITTLE ... like maybe a TINY little itty bitty peek at a small portion of your new Jewelry by Sara Blaine catalog cover?
What do you think? Do you deserve a stylish little snippet?
Well?
Do you?
Of course you do! Here it is!

I told you it was going to be a snippet! You know us creative cats love a tease. Tell you what. The only fair thing to do is keep teasing you all week! That’s why we’re going to do a little Social Media Scavenger Hunt! Each day, we’ll leave a clue on Plate&Pattern’s Facebook page that leads you to another sneak peek. And then, when you least expect it, a clue will lead you to the BIG PAYOFF — the full cover reveal!
