Gothic Elegance: Sophisticated Spooky!
posted by Kathleen on | 1 Comment - Post a comment

Every fall catalog we plan at least one Halloween spread. Usually it involves pumpkins, gourds, and a traditional harvest color palette, but this time we decided to change things up a bit! This year we thought it would be fun to do an "elegant" Halloween. We fell in love with our Gothic Elegance color palette, featuring an array of purples and grays. As we poked through our product room we realized we were in no shortage of options to help get the look we wanted.

We knew right away that our Lyric Candleabra would be the statement piece to open the story. We chose deep purple tapers to give a spookier feel to the piece. Unburned wicks are never OK, but while most people wait and let their candles burn down and drip over time, we needed ours to look used right away. Mary-Beth, our stylist, worked to create just the right drip effect!

The Eclipse Platter was next. Its rich color and metallic silvery glaze added to the sophisticated feel we were looking for. The Annabelle votives added a little mood lighting — they're small enough to place anywhere without stealing the show. One small purple orchid tucked in our Demibottle adds a delicate touch to balance out the spider and crow for just the right mix of spooky and sophisticated.

We did end up using pumpkins, but instead of your traditional orange, we gilded them with Rub-n-Buff (look for a post later on that!) to pull in the metallic tones. To increase the oppulent effect, we placed it under a glass dome and raised it on a pedestal.

We hope you enjoy this new Halloween look as much as we do and that it inspires your spooky style this season!

The Halloween spread is my favorite part of the new catalog. I love the Gothic Elegance and how you transformed our every day products into scary decorations for Halloween yet they are easy for anyone to achieve!
