For Cute Organizers, Think Outside the Box!
posted by Kathleen on | 13 Comments - Post a comment
Want to spruce up your pantry or craft room without spending a fortune? These little knobs, pulls and hook are designed as hardware for furniture, but we're always looking for an innovative way to use our products. Katie came up with this idea — adding the hardware to cute wooden crates — when we first got samples of this product. We're thrilled with the way the project turned out! Everyone has one or two areas of their home that need some organizing (or maybe more, but who's counting, right?). This is an easy project that leads to a big "wow" effect when it's complete.

All we did was buy simple crates from Hobby Lobby in our favorite color. We went with the gray for this look, but, depending on where you use them, bold colors can be fun as well! This red-colored hardware is wonderful because it's the perfect shade to pop off of almost any color you choose.

To drill the holes, we used a drill bit size of 1/8 inch for knobs and 5/32 for the pulls.

For an added punch, you can paint the inside of each crate a different color. You may not be able to tell from the picture, but our crate is a light teal on the inside. Wouldn't these look great filled with all your crafting supplies? Or you could even add them as a little "happy" in your laundry room to help motivate you to organize.

Hope you enjoyed this how-to from our spring catalog. Check back for more coming soon!

Great idea! We're redecorating my daugher's room and she can definitely use more storage!
These are so cute, I love good looking organization!
I really love this. What about the Hanging Fruit containers. Where are they from? I love the crate idea, never thought to paint them. Thanks
I love these. I am partially redecorating my children's 2 bedrooms and my kitchen/dining room. I am going to use this somewhere, maybe in all 3 rooms.
I can find the baskets on your web site. Are they still out of stock?
Thanks for sharing some of your designer secrets! I love the idea of painting the inside a fun, bright color!
